18x24

$12.00

18x24 is a zine that collects many of the multi-frame pictures I have made from the 1990s to now, employing half-frame cameras.

A half-frame camera makes an 18x24mm image on 35mm film, a size that fits twice within the space of a conventional 35mm frame. Like 35mm film, the 18x24 frame has its roots in the Cine world. The generous capacity (twice the number of frames per roll) and sidewise motion immediately suggested a sequential and stuttering approach to picture-making, something that I continue to explore.

The cameras are small and simple. Their simplicity has a magical way of thwarting my tendencies. Instead, I find myself willing to embrace the happy accident. The experience becomes one of free association and chance operations. Until I print the negatives, I'm never entirely sure about what I've done, and I love that unknowing.

Softbound; 45 b&w photographs, 60 pages; 8.8 x 4.15 inches on uncoated stock, perfect bound, landscape format
